Leon Beer was first produced in Cyprus in 1937 by Christodoulos Platanis. Photos Photiades joined the company in 1962 as an investor, and shortly thereafter bought out the rest of the shares in the company. In 1969, the company, now known as Photos Photiades Group, earned the license to brew Carlsberg beer in Cyprus, and ended its production of Leon. The beer was dormant until 2003, when the company began selling the beer again, and it is now the third most popular beer in Cyprus.
