Maine Beer Company is a craft beer brand that was created in 2009 in the city of Portland, Maine, United States by Daniel and David Kleban. The brewery was conceived by David three years earlier, while Daniel was in law school and brewing beer as a hobby. David had previously worked in the world of finance. When they decided to start the business, the focused on refining one recipe until it was perfect, and eventually settled on Spring Peeper Ale (later called Peeper Ale). The beers are marked by their spartan label design and simplicity of style. Their India Pale Ale, “Lunch,” is one of the most well regarded in the nation. At the time of their launch, Maine Beer Company was one of only a few dozen breweries in the state.

They moved from a simple 1 barrel system in 2009 to a much more adequate 15 barrel system the following year, and by 2013 opened up their tasting room in the city of Portland. In 2018, the team hired Steve Mills to act as chief executive officer. Mills had previously been the president of Uinta Brewing, and had also worked at Boulevard Brewing. The brewery’s motto of “Do What’s Right” aligns with their commitment to give 1% of their proceeds to environmental causes through the 1% For the Planet program. The brewery is also solar-powered.
