Monkish Brewing Company was founded in Torrance, California in 2012 by Henry Nguyen and his wife Adriana Nguyen. Nguyen had received a PhD in the New Testament, and began the brewery by focusing on Belgian style beers, both of which contribute to the name Monkish. Initially, the brewery vowed to never make an IPA, even including a sign that read “No MSG, No IPA.” However, they soon began making the popular style, and are now known for their expertise in the hoppy beers.
