Pontoon Brewing was founded in Sandy Springs, Georgia in 2014 by Sean O’Keefe and Marcus Powers. They started out contract brewing their beer, but in 2016 they broke ground on their own location, which opened in December of 2017. In 2022 they opened a second taproom in Tucker, Georgia, roughly 15 miles away.

In October of 2023, however, they announced that the brewery was closing due to insufficient funds, claiming that their distribution and sales partner Bevana Partners had failed to pay them. The company’s website stated that they were looking for partners to purchase the business from them. In February of 2024, a bankruptcy court ruling allowed Pontoon to sever their relationship with Bevana, and they soon announced they would be going back into distribution by May.
