Potosi Brewing was founded in Potosi, Wisconsin in 1906 by brothers Nicholas, Henry, and Adam Schumacher, although brewing on the same site goes back as far as 1852 by Gabriel Hail and John Albrecht. The brewery went bankrupt in 1972, and laid dormant for years. In 1995 it was purchased by Gary David, who transferred the brewery and the land to the Potosi Foundation in 2001. The non-profit now runs the brewery as its sole owners.
