Cervejeira Rosema was founded in São Tomé, São Tomé and Príncipe. It has not been purchased by another company, however ownership of the brewery has been a matter of dispute. In 2009, its owner, Angola businessman Mello Xavier, had his assets seized by the São Tomé and Príncipe courts at the request of the Angolan government as part of a dispute with his partner. The São Tomé and Príncipe government then sold the assets, including the Rosema brewery, to brothers Domingos and António Monteiro, who had ties to the ruling party. However, months later, the Angolan government requested that the assets be returned to Xavier, resulting in several lawsuits over the ensuing decade. As of 2023, the brewery is held by the Monteiro brothers.
