Starr Hill Brewery was created in 1999 by Mark Thompson, Kristin Dolan, and Coran Capshaw in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 2005, the brewery moved to nearby Crozet, Virginia. Thompson helped create the Virginia Brewers Guild as well, which he was chair of in 2014. In 2015 Thompson retired, leaving brand leader Robbie O’Cain in charge as brewmaster and Brian McNelis as CEO. Capshaw, who also is the manager for bands like Dave Mathews Band and Phish, still is the majority owner in the company.
