Taiwan Beer is Taiwan’s most popular beer, and was originally known as Takasago Beer when it was first produced in 1920 in Taipei, Taiwan (then under Japanese rule). The company was known as Takasago Malted Beer Company, and was founded by a group of Japanese investors. In 1946, Chinese nationalists took over the government of Taiwan, and nationalized its breweries. Takasago was renamed to Taiwan Beer, and was organized under the Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau. In 2002, this was renamed to the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation.
