Tommyknocker Brewery was founded in 1994 in Idaho Springs, Colorado by Tim Lenehan and Charlie Sturdavant. They also had support from over two dozen investors, including Gerry Ware and Richard Cohen. When Lenehan died in 2017, a clause in the company’s organizational documents was triggered that required its investors to vote on whether to continue the business. Sturdavant wanted to cash out of the business, and used the opportunity to sell his stake to Ware and Cohen, who he didn’t get along with. The remaining investors, including Lenehan’s heir, also sold, and the pair now own the entirety of the company.
