Tröegs Brewery was created in 1996 by brothers John and Chris Trogner in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In the early 1990s, Chris became familiar with the craft beer trend in Colorado, where he was attending school, and he soon his brother joined him in the state and was working at a brewpub in Boulder. They resolved to start a brewery together, and when they moved back to their hometown of Harrisburg they set up shop. In 2010, the company began construction on a new 90,000 square foot brewery in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which they moved into the following year. By 2018, the brewery had reached over 100,000 barrels in production and was employing 235 workers.

The brewery’s name is a portmanteau of the Trogner name and the Dutch word “kroeg,” which means pub. Tröegs now distributes to nine states throughout the East Coast, as well as the District of Columbia.
