Tyskie is a popular beer brand that was created in 1629 in the city of Tychy, Poland. It was founded by the German House of Promnitz, and by 1861 had become part of the House of Pless. Eventually the brewery transferred to civilian hands, although in 1934 it became state-owned due to unpaid taxes. During World War II, it was administered by the Nazi occupiers. Afterwards, it was owned by Tyskie Browary Książęce until 1999, when it merged with Lech Brewery to form Kompania Piwowarska. In 2009, SABMiller purchased Kompania Piwowarska. When Anheuser-Busch InBev purchased SABMiller in 2016, it sold many of its assets in Europe, including Kompania Piwowarska, to Asahi to appease antitrust regulators. As a result, in the United States it is still distributed by Molson Coors, SABMiller’s descendent in the US. However, it is still produced entirely in Poland by Asahi.
