Upper Hand Brewery was founded in 2014 in Escanaba, Michigan by Bell’s Brewery. Larry Bell, who owned Bell’s at the time, always dreamed of starting a brewery in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 2021, Bell’s was sold to Lion, the Australian subsidiary of Kirin Holdings, and Upper Hand was included in the sale. In 2024, Kirin sold the Upper Hand Brewery to Seven Beverages, a brewing equipment supplier based out of San Marcos, California.
