Fremont Brewing Acquired by Seattle Space Needle Owner

April 16, 2024 – One of Seattle’s biggest breweries will now be linked up with one of Seattle’s most iconic monuments. Fremont Brewing is set to be acquired by Seattle Hospitality Group, according to a statement made yesterday.

The move will add to SHG’s portfolio of hospitality holdings, which includes the Space Needle, the Chihuly Garden, and Ethan Stowell Restaurants. In 2021, the company, owned by investor Howard Wright, also purchased Pike Brewery in 2021.

“We are excited by this opportunity to invest in a Seattle company that shares our passion for culture and vision for growth,” said Wright. The company will have a controlling interest in Fremont, and will provide “resources and support to accelerate its growth plans.” Fremont has been focusing recently on expanding its footprint beyond the Pacific Northwest, with several recent job postings for sales positions throughout the western United States.

Fremont Brewing was founded in 2009 by husband and wife Matt Lincecum and Sarah Nelson, who now serves on the Seattle city council. Pike Brewing was founded in 1989 by Merchant du Vin owners Charles and Rose Ann Finkel. The Finkels sold both companies in 1997, but reacquired Pike Brewing in 2006. When Rose Ann Finkel died in 2021, Charles Finkel sold the majority of Pike Brewing to SHG, though he remains active in the organization with the title of Founder.

Lincecum appears to be staying aboard as well.

“We are excited to embark on this journey with Seattle Hospitality Group and Pike Brewing,” Lincecum said, “Both of our breweries share a deep-rooted passion for brewing exceptional beer and fostering meaningful connections within the local community.”
