Sale of Anchor Brewing Delayed Until Late April

March 27, 2024 – The sale by Sapporo Brewery of the now-defunct Anchor Brewing brand has been delayed until late next month, according to a spokesman for the company.

San Francisco news source SFist reached out to Sam Singer, the PR representative for the Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors managing the sale.

“The sale of Anchor Brewing Co. continues on track,” he responded, “But a winner most likely will announced in late April.”

The company had originally expected the winner to be announced in January, but that date has come and gone with no public statement. Mike Walsh, the millionaire investor and venture capitalist who has been staging a public campaign to support his purchase of the brand, issued a statement back in February announcing they were still interested.

“We are diligently navigating through the necessary stages, immersed in the process, and remain highly optimistic,” Walsh wrote on the organization’s website, “though I must admit, definitive news is still on the horizon.” Walsh has made no other statements since then.

The only other publicly known bidder, the co-op of former Anchor employees known as Anchor SF Cooperative, pulled out in January, though the organization has stated they hope to work with whoever ultimately prevails in the process.
