What does CONSTELLATION BRANDS Own?
Constellation Brands was created in 1945 by Marvin Sands in New York state, originally as Canandaigua Industries. They were first primarily involved in the bulk wine industry, eventually acquiring Manischewitz wine in 1987. In 2000 the company changed its name to Constellation Brands to reflect its growing portfolio, and continued to expand its wine and spirits portfolio. In 2012, however, they shifted their focus to beer after purchasing the US rights to the Grupo Modelo portfolio as part of a deal with Anheuser-Busch InBev, who was buying Modelo but was blocked from acquiring the rights in the United States due to antitrust concerns. Since then, they have become the third biggest brewery in the United States, and have sold off most of their wine and spirits portfolio.
