MYANMA ECONOMIC HOLDINGS

What does MYANMA ECONOMIC HOLDINGS Own?

Myanma Economic Holdings (also known as MEHL) is one of two conglomerates (along with Myanmar Economic Corporation) owned by the Burmese military through the Ministry of Defense. It was created in 1990 as privatization saw many companies owned directly by the government transferred to the military. In 1997 they created Myanmar Brewery as part of a partnership with Asia Pacific Breweries. However, as the actions of the military became more severe, the relationship became untenable, and the private interest was transferred several times. Kirin, who last owned the business, finally gave up its stake in 2022, leaving MEHL as the principal owners of the business.
