Trumer Privatbrauerei started as the Josef Sigl Privatbrauerei in Obertrum am See, Austria in 1775, when Josef Sigl purchased the tavern that owned the brewing rights in the city for 12,000 guilders. It has been family owned for eight generations, with Josef Sigl VIII managing the business since 2013. In 2004, Carlos Alvares, owner of Gambrinus Brewery based out of Texas, acquired the rights to brew the beer in the United States, where the beer is brewed out of Berkeley, California.
