Jupiler Beer was introduced by Piedbœuf Brewery in Jupille-sur-Meuse, Belgium in 1950. At the time, the brewery was owned by the family of Jean-Théodore Piedboeuf, who founded the brewery in 1853. In 1971, the company merged with Brouwerij Artois in a deal that gave the Artois family 88% control of the new enterprise. That deal was initially kept a secret, until the companies publicly merged in 1988 to become Interbrew. Interbrew later merged with South American AmBev to become InBev in 2004. Four years later, InBev purchased Anheuser-Busch to become Anheuser-Busch InBev.
