Heron & Brearley was founded in 1898 on the Isle of Man by J.C. Brearley and George C. Heron, originally as a wine and spirit importer. Throughout the twentieth century, the company acquired pubs on the island, and later added hotels to their portfolio. In 1946, the company began brewing beer with the acquisition of Okell’s Brewery. They expanded again in 1986 by acquiring Castletown Brewery.
