Flying Dog Brewery was founded in 1990 by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre in Aspen, Colorado. In 2006, the brewery acquired Frederick Brewing in Frederick, Maryland, and moved its headquarters there. It later closed the Aspen facility in 2007. The brand is widely known for their distinctive art, which was designed by Ralph Steadman, who also created the artwork for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In 2023, Flying Dog was sold to F.X. Matt Brewing Company, based out of New York.
