Kings & Convicts Brewing was founded in 2017 by Chris Bradley and Brendan Watters in Highwood, Illinois. In 2019, the brand had less than 600 barrels of beer in distribution. Much to the shock of many, that year they purchased Ballast Point Brewing from Constellation Brands that year. Through Watters’ and Bradley’s access to private investors, they were able to purchase the brand for somewhere between $75 million and $200 million. In 2025, the company gave up a majority stake in Ballast Point, though they still remain minority investors.
