Newcastle is a popular beer brand that originated in 1927 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The original owner and creator of Newcastle was Colonel James Herbert Porter. In 1960, the Newcastle merged with Scottish Brewers to become Scottish & Newcastle. In 2008, Heineken and Carlsberg formed a consortium to purchase Scottish & Newcastle, with each taking half of the brands; Newcastle went to Heineken.
