HEINEKEN N.V.

What does HEINEKEN N.V. Own?

Heineken was founded in 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken, who bought the De Hooiberg in Amsterdam. The brewery expanded greatly over the next hundred years, remaining under the leadership of Heineken, then his son, and then his grandson until 1989. In 1968, Heineken bought its biggest competitor Amstel. In 2007 they expanded again by purchasing many of the brands previously owned by Scottish and Newcastle. They gained a large foothold in Mexico by purchasing Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma in 2010. In 2015 they purchased half of Lagunitas Brewery in California; they purchased the other half in 2017.
