Who owns HARPOON BREWING?
HARPOON BREWING is owned by
MASS. BAY BREWING COMPANY
First Brewed
1986
Origin
Massachusetts, United States
Harpoon Brewery, was founded in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts, by Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle, and George Ligeti, and at the time was the first alcohol manufacturer in the state in fifteen years. The brewery struggled at first, and didn’t make a profit until 1992. That year, the company produced their India Pale Ale, the first of its kind in New England, which eventually became its flagship beer. Hype slowly started to build, and eventually Harppon developed a following.
The parent organization the team founded – Mass. Bay Brewing Company – has expanded to include other craft breweries and beverage products, beginning with the creation of Ufo brewing in 1998, and later the acquisition of Catamount Brewing in Windsor, Vermont in 2000. In 2014, Rich Doyle divested in the company by creating an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, meaning that Mass. Bay Brewing is now employee owned. In 2017, the company purchased Clown Shoes Brewing, and in 2022 they acquired Long Trail Brewing, which also owned The Shed and Otter Creek Brands.
