Samuel Adams was created in the year 1984 in Boston, Massachusetts, by the Boston Beer Company. The brand was initially established by Jim Koch, Rhonda Kallman, and Harry Rubin with the goal of reviving the traditional brewing methods and flavors of American craft beer. Despite the company’s name and its connection to Boston, the beer was initially brewed in Pittsburgh through a contract with the Pittsburgh Brewing Company, as well as other breweries around the midwest and northeast. In 1997, the company purchased the former Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewery in Cincinnati to brew its beer, and ten years later purchased another brewery in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania.

The company is publicly listed, with an IPO held in 1995 valued at $15 per share for about $60 million worth of capital raised.
