Bacardi Silver was a flavored malt beverage produced by Anheuser-Busch beginning in 2002, as part of an agreement with Bacardi Limited. It has since been discontinued.

Bacardi was founded in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba in 1862 by Facundo Bacardí Massó. He began experimenting with refining rum, using a charcoal distillation technique and a proprietary yeast that helped remove some of the harsh characteristics of Cuban rum at the time. The company began to thrive, particularly after Cuba achieved independence from Spain. When the Cuban revolution happened in 1960, the company ownership, which initially supported the rebellion, fled Cuba over fears that it would be taken over by the Castro regime. They moved their headquarters to Hamilton, Bermuda.

As the popularity of malt beverages increased in the early 21st century, Bacardi teamed up with Anheuser-Busch to produce a malt beverage version of their rum for the United States market. The intent was to provide a competitor to Smirnoff Ice, made by Diageo, which was the fastest growing malt brand at the time. Since these products are fermented and not distilled, they lower taxes and wider availability in many states, providing another avenue for their spirits based counterparts. The product was Anheuser-Busch’s first collaboration with a spirits supplier, and its second entry into the malt space after 1999’s introduction of Tequiza, a tequila flavored malt beverage.

Bacardi Silver launched with a rum and citrus flavored beverage, though other flavors were added to the lineup as the portfolio grew.

The product was launched in 2002, and when Anheuser-Busch was purchased by InBev in 2008, that contract was transferred to the new company, Anheuser-Busch InBev. Although the product sold well initially, it later fell out of favor as the popularity of hard seltzers grew. In 2012, the product was discontinued.
