Belikin Beer was first brewed in 1971 by the Belize Brewing Company, which was founded in 1969 in Ladyville, Belize. The name comes from the Maya language for “Route to the East.” Since its founding, Belize Brewing Company has been owned by Bowen & Bowen, a conglomerated business with companies in many industries. In 2017, Heineken acquired a minority stake in the business.
