Brakina beer was first created in 1960 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and was original known as Bravolta. The country was originally known as the Republic of the Upper Volta, which is where the name Bravolta is derived. However, in 1983, following a coup d’état, the country became known as Burkina Faso, and the beer’s name changed to Brakina. In 1990, Brakina was sold to the french Groupe Castel, who retains it to this day.
