Cidrerie Stassen was founded in 1895 in Aubel, Belgium by Léon Stassen. The cidermaker was family owned until 1992, when it was purchased by English cider conglomerate Bulmers. Bulmers was purchased by Scottish & Newcastle in 2003, however in 2008 Heineken and Carlsberg jointly purchased its assets and split them up. The Stassen family bought back the rights to their brand instead, although four years later they ended up selling it to Heineken anyway.
