Guiluxe beer was first created in 1948 by SOBOA, and at the time was brewed in Dakar, Senegal and bottled in Conakry, Guinea. In 1958, the brewery was nationalized by the Guinean government, and was renamed SOBRAGUI. The nationalization also allowed the beer to be brewed onsite for the first time. In 1987, privatization led the brewery to be sold to Belgian brewer UNIBRA, who held the company until 2008, when it was purchased by French brewing group Groupe Castel.
