Tusker beer was created in the year 1922 in Nairobi, Kenya by George and Charles Hurst and the Dodd Family. It was originally known as Kenya Breweries Limited, and in 1935 they acquired Tanganyika Breweries in what is now Tanzania. The merged companies were renamed East African Breweries Limited, and were listed publicly in 1954. In 2000, international company Diageo purchased a majority stake in EABL, granting them control of the brand.
