Wachusett Brewing Company was founded in 1994 in Westminster, Massachusetts by Ned LaFortune, Peter Quinn, and Kevin Buckle, three former college classmates. The company expanded in 2015 with the addition of a new brewhouse with four times the capacity of their previous system.
In 2024, it was announced that Wachusett would be purchased by Finestkind Brewing, the brewing arm of the private equity company Runnymede Investments. In late 2024, Finestkind Beverages merged with Mass. Bay Brewing Company, the parent company of Harpoon Brewing among others, to become Barrel One Collective.
