Wyder’s Cider Brewery was founded in 1987 in Port Moody, British Columbia by Iain Wyder. In the early 1990’s, he began exporting the cider to Oregon and Washington, and later Northern California. The cider became popular in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in 1994 Wyder sold the company to Bill Gibbs. Gibbs sold the brand to Vermont Cider Company in 2008, owner of Woodchuck Cider.
In 2012, the Vermont Cider was purchased by Irish beverage company C&C Group. The deal was valued at $305 million, and within two years the company had built a $34 million cidermaking facility for the brand. In 2021, C&C sold the company to Vermont-based Northeast Drinks Group for just $20 million. The group was formed by David Mandler and other investors with the intention of purchasing Woodchuck and bringing it back to Vermont ownership, and along with the sale came Wyder’s.
