Otter Creek is a popular beer brand that was created in 1991 in the city of Middlebury, Vermont by Lawrence Miller. At the time, the brewery sold beer only on draft, and Miller was its sole employee. By 1995, the brewery was achieveing critical and popular success, and Otter Creek moved to a larger location down the street, expanding their production capacity to 60,000 barrels per year. It began contract brewing organic beer for Wolaver’s Fine Organic Ales, and in 2002, Wolaver purchased Otter Creek and took over production.

In 2010, the brands were purchased by the Long Trail Brewing Company, located in Bridgewater Corners, Vermont. The next year, Otter Creek purchased the rights to beers by The Shed, a popular and long running apres-ski restaurant that was shutting down. The production of Wolaver’s beer ceased in 2015, leaving the Otter Creek and Shed beers as the two brands in the Otter Creek division of the company.

In 2022, Long Trail Brewing and its subsidiaries was purchased by Mass. Bay Brewing Company, an employee-owned company. With the announcement, the company said that it would begin brewing Long Trail, Otter Creek, and Shed beers at its facility in Windsor, Vermont. The Otter Creek facility would be turned into a distillery for Whistle Pig Whiskey. The move meant many jobs would be retained, but some would be eliminated, while others would be transfered to the Whistle Pig Facility.
